Morgenstern Center for Orbital and Facial Plastic Surgery Position: Medical Assistant Department: Technician Department Reports to: Physician / Team Lead Category: Non-Exempt Status: Full Time Schedule: Variable and flexible schedule Essential Function: Responsible for patient communication, scribing and note taking during office visits, patient screening, testing, instrument maintenance, medication refills, minor surgery assistance, set-up for in-office procedures, and opening and closing the office. _______________________________________________________________________________________________ Essential Skills: Strong computer skills Good verbal communication skills and able to speak to patients, doctors, and other co-workers Good written communication skills and able to read and interpret information to patients and doctors. Ability to operate screening and testing equipment. Ability to assist in minor surgery, set-up and clean up. Ability to refill medications, and assist doctor during procedures. Must have demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills, being friendly, compassionate and pleasant to patients. Physical Requirements: Able to speak and hear clearly on the phone. Able to stand for 7 + hours per day and able to navigate around work and testing stations. Dexterity in hands and fingers to operate computer, testing equipment, write and complete information. Equipment to Operate: Strong computer literacy Knowledge of EMR and MIPS required Knowledge of ModMed system is preferred Able to operate scanner, e-fax, photocopier and other basic office equipment. Ability to operate screening and testing equipment xe2x80x93 as listed below. Education / Experience Requirements: High School Graduate Ophthalmology Assistant or Medical Assistant Certification highly preferred. At least 4 years experience Working in a dermatology, ophthalmic or plastic surgery practice strongly preferred. Demonstrated experience working with patients or customers in a compassionate and friendly manner. Able to perform in a fast paced environment Highly Organized Screen patients to collect the following information: 1. Patient PFSH 2. Patients medical history 3. Patient medications 4. Patient Chief Complaint 5. Allergies 6. MIPS Perform additional testing and procedures 7. Consenting patient prior procedures 8. Patient Education 9. Assist Dr. Morgenstern with in office surgeries 10. Set-up of in-office procedures 11. Suture removal 12. Assisting in Irrigation and Dilation Additional Duties and Responsibilities: 13. Medication refills 14. Calibration of equipment 15. Stocking and cleaning screening & exam rooms 16. Ensure all testing is ordered and prior authorization is done, if needed, such as: Biopsies, Cultures and Diagnostics testing 17. Review all abnormal results with Dr. Morgenstern, call all patients with results within 24 hours. 18. Travel to satellite office when needed and perform duties required at that facility. 19. Ensure Dr. Morgenstern has the materials he needs for surgery and satellite office days such as equipment and supplies.
