Certified Medical Assistant Job Description Certified Medical Assistant Job Purpose: Helps patients by providing information, services, and assistance. Certified Medical Assistant Job Duties: Verifies patient information by interviewing patient; recording medical history; confirming purpose of visit. Prepares patients for examination by performing preliminary physical tests; taking blood pressure, weight, height and temperature; reporting patient history summary. Secures patient information and maintains patient confidence by completing and safeguarding medical records; keeping patient information confidential. Counsels patients by transmitting physician’s orders and answering questions. Phlebotomy procedures, package specimens for transport to Laboratory. Perform EKG, Spirometry, Pulse Ox, ABI testing, vision and hearing screenings. Perform minor Laboratory testing; Urinalysis. Check Coumadin levels & glucose, hgb. Assist Caregivers with medical procedures (pelvic exams, breast exams, biopsy, wound care, glucose monitoring, and any other patient treatments as necessary. Administer immunizations/injections as needed. Maintain safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations as it pertains to biohazard and OSHA standards. Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; verifying receipt and stocking of rooms. Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs. Sterilization of instruments (autoclave); clean and prep exam rooms. Process Rx requests as needed and obtaining prior authorizations. Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications. Serves and protects the Internal Medicine Associates practice by adhering to professional standards, policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements. Enhances practice reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
