MISSION STATEMENT The mission of The University of Texas M. D. MD Anderson Cancer Center has a Medical Assistant opportunity in the International Center. The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or equivalent and at least two years of medical assistant experience. Shift: Monday – Friday 8:00am – 5:00pm Key Functions Assists nursing staff with routine patient care services including; procedures, collecting information from patients, filling out appropriate information on FML, disability form and other forms, and producing /sending patient result letters as delegated. Participates in activities that maintain compliance with regulatory agencies including overseeing that all supplies are stored, organized, labeled and within their expiration date. Use effective customer service skills to meet the needs of patient family and staff. Assists with patient examinations, treatments, and procedures. Prepares / stocks rooms and escorts patients to rooms. Obtains vital signs and prepares patients for physician’s care. Documents in the medical record patient care entries and completed lab work. Reviews and sorts incoming lab results and forwards reports for review. Collects laboratory specimens and performs waived laboratory testing (such as finger stick glucose and EKG tests). Provides transportation of patients for discharge or transfer to other areas in the hospital. Must position, lift and move patients as needed. Cleans, stores, prepares and coordinates maintenance of medical equipment. Maintains inventories of laboratory and medical supplies. Processes all required paperwork. Instructs patients as to test preparations according to planned procedure. EDUCATION Required: High school diploma/equivalent. Preferred: Graduate of an approved Medical Assistant program or US Military medical services training program. EXPERIENCE Required: One year of medical assistant experience; with preferred degree, no experience is required. Preferred: Two years of Medical Assistant experience . CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE Required: None Preferred: Certified by one of the following based on Medical Assistant experience or preferred education: Certified by one of the following based on Medical Assistant experience or preferred education: Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) by the American Society of Medical Technologists (AMT) Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) by the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
