Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) Performs general care to patients. Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with standards. Assists with the preparation of equipment and aids physician during treatment, examination, and testing of patients. Observes, records, and reports patientxe2x80x99s condition and reaction to drugs and treatments to physicians. Administers prescribed medications as directed. Reviews physicians schedule and ensures preferences are given to patients in an emergency situation. Maintains timely flow of patients. Greets patients and prepares them for physician examination. Screens/interviews patients for appropriate information. Brief history on follow-up patients; detailed history on new patients for doctors who have requested this service. Instructs patients in proper collection o samples, and explains tests. Coordinates with appropriate personnel for patient testing and admissions. Responds to and refers incoming telephone calls. Instructs patient and family regarding medications and treatment instructions. Prepares and inspects patientxe2x80x99s charts for the next days schedule. Posts tests and examination results for physician review and signature. Completes chart review at the end of each day for proper documentation. Performs related work as required. Open rooms in the a.m., soak instruments, check supplies on carts and in cabinets, check for collection cups and catheters. Opens the doctorxe2x80x99s stations, checks for slides, cover slips, prescription pads, post-it notes, pens and fill container with Lysol water for dirty tubes. Set up rooms for procedures scheduled as needed throughout the day, sterilize instruments for exams, stock supplies. Maintains cleanliness of exam rooms after patient leaves. Ensures that lab reports, x-rays and other information is in the patientxe2x80x99s record. Escorts patients to exam room and assists in determining medical problems. Takes and records vital signs. Obtains urine specimens as requested by nurses or physicians (ie: catherized, clean catch, voided). Assists physicians and nurses with minor diagnostic procedures and treatments as directed. Assists in patient education. Prepares urine specimens for microscopic exam by physician. Assists in positioning and preparing patients for exam. Notify patients of normal reports and records same in the patients record. Prepare urine specimens for cultures and sensitivities.
