Description: Anne Arundel Urology is looking for a Medical Assistant to join our team. The Medical Assistant will provide medical services to patients under the guidance of a Licensed Provider and/or Registered Nurse. Our practice has offices located in Annapolis, Glen Burnie, Odenton, Bowie and Greenbelt. The ideal person for this type of role is a good listener, outgoing and compassionate, organized, adaptable and an excellent problem solver. This vital role greets our patients, displays professionalism, and maintains confidentiality at all times. The Medical Assistant assists in direct patient care, performs treatments and administers medications with appropriate training as directed by the supervising physician, and is an active team participant in the patient-centered practice by aiding in the development of office workflows. Responsibilities: Provide patient-care services xe2x80x93 Obtains and documents reason for visit, patient vital signs which may include temperature, blood pressure, weight, BMI, respirations, and pulse. Prepares patients for scheduled procedures by assuring the patient is appropriately gowned and instruments and supplies are set up. Uses Standard Precautions for all patient encounters. Collects specimens as directed by provider. Uses appropriate equipment and protocols for specimen collection, processing, handling, and storage. Ensures all specimens are tracked/logged prior to transportation to lab. Completes pre-visit planning and visit prep according to established guidelines. Obtains comprehensive health information from patient/family members at the time of the visit. This may include review of systems and history of present illness and/or past medical and social history. Obtains an accurate medication review updating the EHR. Completes office standing orders for the chronic and preventative healthcare needs of the patient. Supports the provider during the visit and patient exam by collecting and entering information in the patient record, carrying out orders and completing post visit patient care education and instructions. Perform supportive procedures xe2x80x93 Under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse or provider, prepares and administers vaccines, medications and controlled substances as prescribed by a licensed provider. Documents and processes prescription requests and refills per protocol. Performs basic office procedures and/or tests ordered by provider and as skill competencies are demonstrated (i.e. bladder scan, EKGs, lavage, etc.). Obtains comprehensive health information from patient/family members to review with providers or clinical resource over the phone, including CCM. Uses this information to assist providers in determining the urgency for care or an alternative venue for care for patients with acute problems, should access not be readily available at the practice. Returns calls to patients in a timely manner. Other duties xe2x80x93 Answer phones, take messages and greet patients. Ensures all patient care areas are adequately stocked with unexpired medical supplies and has equipment that is in good working condition with up-to-date biomedical assessment checks. Properly handles, stores, and cleans instruments, equipment, and supplies per manufacturer guidelines. Efficiently manages daily patient flow to manage fluctuating patient volumes and demands. Prioritizes daily patient care tasks and activities that are delegated by the care team. Performs other related duties, as required. Demonstrates adherence to company policies and expectations and behavioral competencies, both explicit and implicit. Requirements: High school diploma required. Accredited program completion preferred. Credentialed as a CCMA, CMA, RMA, preferred. Minimum experience 2 years work experience in primary care or specialty care clinic preferred. Urology experience is a plus! CPR, EMT experience a plus! Allscripts and/or Urochart experience is a plus! Strong communication skills and the ability to work well with a team in a fast-paced environment Previous clinical experience is preferred. Travel to other offices may be required to fit the needs of the practice. Reliable transportation is required. Physical Requirements: Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk / workstation and/or prolonged periods of standing, continuous movement, lift, lower, push, pull, and twist. Prolonged periods using a computer with repetitive motion. Must be able to lift up to fifty (50) pounds. Hours of Work: Full Time, In-Person, Hourly position Monday through Friday – 40 Hour week with variable shift pattern.
