Job Description Position: CMA/RMA Reports to: Office Manager Job Summary: Looking to work with a great enthusiastic team that provides flexibility, 4 day work weeks, then Great Lakes Medical Associates is a place for you. The Medical Assistant is a crucial component of our Medical Office; they will work alongside the provider and clerical staff to ensure that patients receive optimal care and to aid in office efficiency. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Review with the patient and document their physical/emotional condition, effectively obtain social, medical and family history. Provide Healthcare Support. Accurately obtain patient vital signs, height, weight, temp, pulse and communicate any abnormalities to the provider. Complete Chief compliant with full documentation in the EMR. Provide support and assistance to the physician/practitioner during patient examinations and procedures. Interpretation and implementation of the physicianxe2x80x99s/practitioner recommended orders. (I.e. laboratory, samples, etc.) Complete documentation and charting of all clinical test results, and other patient interactions. Obtain requested lab specimens and the processing of those specimens, internally in the office-based lab (CLIA waived testing, UA, Strep etc.), or externally (send out test) when required. Administration of medications as directed by the Provider. Assist the patient in scheduling all follow-up appointments or referrals as necessary. Perform phlebotomy duties with accurate documentation. (When requested, if needed, Mid-Michigan Gratiot does have lab tech in office M-F) In collaboration with the providers, create and maintain patient education information. Educate patient as ordered by Provider. Scan information into the electronic medical record as needed. Follow-up on all medical record issues with insurance companies, hospitals, and physician practices. Treat all patients and associates with respect and dignity, and provide professional service to them in a timely, polite and considerate manner. Maintain and ensure confidentiality of protected health information (PHI). Maintain and monitor Quality Improvement activities as requested. Maintain and monitor all office logs, and controls as requested. Maintain a neat, clean and safe working environment at all times. Must maintain current CPR certification. Administer allergy injections and immunizations as ordered by provider. Process prescriptions as ordered by the provider. Initiate and keep current tracking for labs, diagnostic imaging, and referrals. Prepare providers schedules for the next week (chart prep) by obtaining all information necessary to insure efficiency. Discharge patients from rooms, providing education and follow up appointment. Clean rooms between each patient visit. Complete telephone encounters/communications daily. Review charts of Schedule II patients to determine the need for UDS, MAPS, and Current CSA, and alert provider of any discrepancies. Process Prior Authorizations for medications or services. Complete forms (FMLA, off school/off work slip, insurance forms) for provider signature. Monitor and order medical supplies per office protocol. Maintain MSDS book Attend meetings and participates in committees as required. Performs other related duties as assigned. Education, Experience and Other Requirements: Graduate of a Medical Assisting program. Knowledge of the day to day operations of a medical practice, to include basic patient care skills. Medical terminology knowledge and the ability to accurately utilize the CPT and ICD 10 manuals. Data entry skills. Good communication skills required, in both verbal and written form. The desire to grow professionally and to gain more responsibility as necessary. Checking Office email at least once per work day since primary source of communication. Ability to handle complex workload that requires meeting daily deadlines. Detail-oriented and well organized with ability to prioritize workload and handle inherent stress. Confidential handling of all PHI. INTERPERSONAL RELATIONS: Must have the ability to problem- solve for patients and visitors, have a positive attitude and manner and be able to work together as an effective team. Employees must strive greet patients and families by name, introduces self to new patients, and respects privacy and confidentiality at all times. ACCIDENT OR HEALTH HAZARD: Requires exposure to communicable disease and/or bodily fluids, toxic substance, medicinal preparation and other conditions common to a clinic environment. The tasks performed on the job produce exposure to injuries obtained in use of equipment, hazardous material or health hazards (communicable diseases) that could result in permanent or long xe2x80x93term illness or injury. PHYSICAL DEMAND/ WORKING CONDITIONS: Agreeable office environment, duties may include light to moderate exertion of manual effort in transporting materials, equipment, and /or transporting patients; frequent standing and /or walking, lifting, bending, pushing, and /or pulling loads up to 25 pounds.
